Final year of your college duration is a perfect time to start your upsc preparation.
Note, The minimum age qualification is 21 and minimum education qualification is graduation on any discipline. So during the graduation you can’t attempt the upsc.
And after graduation you need mark sheet or probationary certificate as a proof to apply prelims and degree completion is necessary to apply mains.
So, in today’s article I’am going to talk about that how can you prepare upsc without screwing up your college life.
Don’t go over serious
I think this advice could be applicable for all ambitious students not just only for upsc aspirants. your college life, particularly the duration of your final year is the last stage in your life, you live with great people.
After that, you couldn’t find that kind of people in real society in real life.
Not sacrificing your friends and outing that kind of things while you in college is necessary. Because you’re going to sacrifice many things in every stage of your life for your carrier, job and family once you out of the campus.
Read Ncert books from 6th std to 12th class
UPSC Syllabus contains vast variety of subjects. But History, Geography, Economics and Political Science are the prominent ones. I like to call them, 4 pillars of the upsc.
Probably you may come from engineering, medical science or any another stream of education background which has nothing to do with these 4 pillars.
So, to understand the fundamentals, basic concepts and technical terms, start read ncert books.
Here read all of my posts to learn about the ncert study materials:
- List of ncert books for ias
- Are Ncert books are enough for IAS exam preparation
- Old ncert or new ncert for upsc and what’s the difference.
- Importance of ncert books in UPSC preparation
Develop the habit of Newspaper reading
Current affairs preparation are much more important than reading text books and ncert materials.
A good example is 2016 prelims question paper. Almost 90 percentage of questions asked purely from current affairs.
Remembet you don’t need to read newspaper perfectly at this time. Just develop this habit as pre-requisite.
Here are sources to get you start reading newspaper for current affairs preparation:
- how to read hindu newspaper effectively for upsc
- best newspaper for civil services exam
- Why i need to read Hindu editorial for upsc exam
It is always better to enjoy your college life when you can. otherwise, In some point at your life, you would end up saying… Damn 😥 I should have done that.
While you in college, just warm up yourself, don’t start serious preparation and sacrifice things which you shouldn’t.
All the best… 🙂
